Is it possible to open up the FLIR One Pro and access the Lepton 3.5 sensor, and use the open source software etc on it?

At worst, is the Lepton 3.5 just plugged into a socket, and could you unplug it, and put it in a breakout board from GroupGets for example?

At the moment, the cost of a Lepton 3.5 plus PureThermal board and shipping, and adding a few odds and ends to get a wokable device, is very close to the cost of buying a FLIR One Pro "off the shelf".

The problem is that paying $199 for a sensor (and then $90 to $120 for a borad) that's only 4,800 pixels, or $400 for an assembled one (in say the FLIR One Pro seems quite expensive compared to the Seek Thermal sensor of 76,800 pixels, that is sold as complete unit for  $400.

It seems a bit rough to pay so much, for such a small sensor.
So if one could use the Lepton 3.5 sensor from the FLIR One Pro to have some fun with, at least you'd get a bit more value for your money.

It is my understanding that, yes, you can do this.

I believe the original “DIY Thermocam”s had their parts obtained by taking apart the FLIR iPhone/Android sensors and doing it that way.

Anyway, this quote seems to confirm it:

One way to do so is to buy a FLIR ONE disassemble the device and take out sensor

You’ll either need a PT2 or a FLIR breakout board to then use the sensor.

Actually yes. I teared apart an old Flir One Pro gen2 (Lepton 3.0) and I bought a PT and now I'm having fun.
