Hi All,

I would like to know if this sensor is suitable to use for Human skin temperature detection?? as I see the accuracy is rated at +-5%. Its is an expensive sensor so would appreciate some advice before I purchase to try it out.

Thank You

Firdosh - in principle, yes the sensor can measure temperature and therefore can be used for Skin temperature detection, however, don't forget that you will also need the emissivity value for skin (approx 0.98) and you will also need to understand that the uncertainty of measurement is +/-5% - this is partly due to the thermal stability of the sensor - if it is in a temperature controlled environment and attached to a good heat sink then the thermal stability will be better and so the uncertainty of measurement will improve. It would be better to include a reference temperature in the field of view - such as a Black Body - you could then use this to compare against the skin temperature and you will get a better accuracy and uncertainty. There are many factors affecting accurate temperature measurement, including the Reflected ambient temperature, emissivity of the target, any local thermal sources etc, etc, so its not as simple as pointing the camera at a target and getting a measurement value.
