Hi all,

When I'm glossing or analysing a single-word entry in Texts&Words, I can Create New Entry, which goes into the Lexicon. But the associated information in the fields beneath the Word in Texts&Words, like the free/literal translations and various notes, don't carry over. So, when I go into Lexicon, I can't see that information about that particular lexeme.

Is there a way around this? Or do I have to manually copy over the information?

thanks, Ellen

Hi Ellen,
In principle, the information that you have for a word in a text, and what you have in the notes below the text line, refer to different levels of the linguistic hierarchy. The notes and the various translation lines are given for the whole line of text, so that it doesn't make sense to make this information available in the lexicon with each morpheme - which would also potentially appear in many other text lines, where different translations and different notes apply. So this inability is be design.
In your case, you use these notes and translation lines with a different purpose in order to show other orthographic representations of the same morpheme. This is why I earlier suggested to you that you create different writing systems for each different orthographic representation - this is the cleanest way to show this information without breaking the integrity of the linguistic hierarchy.

But even if you do that, when using "Create New Entry" the current dialogue does not allow you to enter the morpheme form in another writing system - you will still have to go to the lexicon to add this information by hand, but at least there will be a good place for it. I believe the developers plan to make things a little easier by allowing to create a new entry into a pop-up window of the Lexicon, where more fields are immediately available, and where you don't have to leave the Text-and-Words window you work in.

Best wishes,
Andreas

Yes, the ability to add other details to the lexical entry is indeed coming soon. I believe this is a feature that will be greatly appreciated by FLEx users working in the Texts & Words area.
