Hi,

Hoping someone can help as this is getting really annoying nowǃ FLEx is not remembering my column configurations in the Lexicon, both Lexicon Edit and Bulk Edit, so every time I switch between those views the columns reset. They also reset every time I close and reopen a project. Even if I create a backup and choose to include the configuration settings, if I then restore the backup the columns reset.

This wouldn't be so annoying if the reset version was a set of columns I use regularly, but they're not, and there's so many of them that I can't see the ones I want easily.

I'm using version 9.3.6 Beta, and this is happening with every project on my machine. Any ideas why this is happening and how to make it stop?

Thanks,
Lizzie

Hi, Lizzie.

Does this describe what you're experiencing?:

Custom fields can't be removed in the Browse view. They come back when the user navigates away from the Lexicon Edit view and then returns to Lexicon Edit. FLEx is automatically adding a column in the Lexicon Edit Browse pane for each custom field that exists in the project. It does this each time the user navigates to the Lexicon Edit view, even if the columns were removed via the Column Configuration tool previously. In a project that has a lot of custom fields, this could be very annoying!

That's a portion of what I wrote about three weeks ago for JIRA issue LT-22316. This issue received prompt attention from the development team, so the problem is now fixed. Once you upgrade to FW 9.3.7 (not yet released), you should experience relief from your current anguish (assuming that this is indeed the problem you're encountering).

Best wishes,
Kevin

Almost... I hadn't spotted it was all the custom custom fields. But I also get a column for the lexeme form in the default vernacular writing system reappearing. Since the default vernacular corresponds to the orthography, I'm not interested in that for the lexeme form. I typically show the headword in orthography, but lexeme in the phonemic and/or phonetic writing systems.

I have the same problem and just wrote a problem report before I saw this. So hopefully we'll see it corrected in FW 9.3.7 soon.

Thank you very much to everyone who is working on FLEx!

Does holding the Shift key down while FLEx is starting make any difference?  This resets all settings back to "factory settings" which will affect other views and dialog boxes.  (You have to keep holding the Shift key the entire time FLEx is starting.)

Yes, this does reset all the settings, but then when I reconfigure my columns and close and open again normally, the custom columns come back.

Hi again,

Having updated to 9.3.7 this morning I am no longer getting the custom fields re-added. If Lexeme Form (default vernacular) is not already in the chosen configuration it still gets added each time, but that's not a big deal because I can just change my chosen Lexeme Form (Orthographic) to Lexeme Form (default vernacular) and I see what I want.

Thanks for the fix!

Thanks for the update, Lizzie. I’m glad that the “annoyance level” is now manageable for you. However, the persistence of the Lexeme Form may be annoying to other users.

I’ve just updated FW on my laptop and have reproduced what you described. I will write this up in JIRA so that it can be fixed as well.

The JIRA issue I created is LT-22437. You can “watch” the issue if you want to receive notifications about progress toward resolution of the problem.
