So I have a word,  ගැටලු that is both a plural form of  ගැටලුව as well as an adjective.

I created the entry for the singular form ( ගැටලුව ), and then a second entry for  ගැටලු with two senses, one as a noun and one as an adjective.

However when I went back to  ගැටලුව and added  ගැටලු as a plural variant, the entry for  ගැටලු no longer shows the two senses in the dictionary:

I have done a refresh several times. You can see that the data is still there (Sense 2 is cut off the screen shot, but you can see it in the browser view to the left.

It shows the same in the dictionary view:

Am I doing something wrong? I like having the variant linkage. Is my only alternative to not link them? Or do I need to have two headwords for  ගැටලු, one of them as the plural linked and the other as an adjective?

Thanks!

One thing about Variants is that typically they don't have a sense.  Normally a variant is something that has the same meaning as its main form, but just has a different shape (or differs only by some grammatical feature, such as "plural").

It is possible for a variant to have a sense, if you add it, so you could in fact have the same entry for both the plural form, and for the adjective.  However, I would be inclined to treat the plural as "just a variant" and have the adjective be a separate entry, with its own information.  Still, there are lots of options, and that is only one possible way.

Have you discovered the DLS Lexicography Course?

There is a lot of really good information there, and the section that treats Variants is the first section in the Lex 201 course:

There are also some videos that discuss variants and how to configure them:

Thank you! That makes sense.

I'm currently on 101 C 8, so I guess I'm getting ahead of myself. It's a wonderful course. I just can't get through quick enough :-)

No need to rush through it. Better to learn it well. I wish I'd had such a course available when I was learning to use FLEx.
