Hi all,
In my project I imported all concepts so that entries and sub-entries are stored as entries (each with an ID number at the entry level). When I export the dictionary to Word, the output inserts letter-headings (A, B, etc.) that end up mixed with my headwords. A short excerpt shows the problem:
- A -
A, a

- F -
from (point) A to (point) B
- a -
an A for effort
- e -
exhibit A
- F -
from A to Z
- A -
A
A
a
a-
A1
AA
aa
AAA
Aadhaar
aah
aardvark
aardwolf

What I want: have all under A or no letter-headings at all—just a continuous list of entries/headwords.

Is there a setting in Configure Dictionary (FLEx) or in Pathway to disable/suppress letter-headings entirely?
If not, is there a recommended way to do this on export—e.g., a Pathway stylesheet or a Word step (removing paragraphs with a specific style like “Letter Heading” / “Dictionary-HeadLetter”)?
Given that many of my headwords begin with symbols/letters due to the import, is there a best-practice to avoid these headings without changing my entry structure?

Environment (for context):
- FLEx version: Flex 9.3.3
- Export route: Dictionsry, Reversal Index Ms Word (.docx)
- OS: Windows

Thanks in advance for any pointers or step-by-step guidance!

Best,
Emmanuel

Hi Emmanuel,

It looks like you need to fix your sort order. I recommend that you use custom ICU rules for sorting.  The document that will help you do this is at https://downloads.languagetechnology.org/fieldworks/Documentation/FieldWorks%20Sorting%20With%20ICU%20Rules.pdf. If you really want to get rid of these headers, you can do so by sorting on something other than a lexeme or citation form field. For example, you could bulk edit the lexeme form field to a custom entry field and sort on that, and it would not include letter headers. In Word, it would be possible to delete the letter headers.
