IOD spinnakers - Delivery 2025

Dear Fleet,

The sail committee together with John, Charlie and Graham have reviewed the various options for the manufacture of new spinakers for delivery in June of 2025.

This group recommends the following:

Manufacturer: North Sails 

Material: Superkote 75

Sail design: Tri radial (current FI IOD spinaker design)

Price: $2,000

Country of manufacture: Sri Lanka

Delivery: June 2025

Sail color design is up to each boat individually. Pricing allows for color variations of the tri-radial design panels. Special graphics are available at an additional charge.

A downpayment is required $958.50. We are late in placing our order, so a quick response is required to secure June delivery.

Color options will be made available next week. The link below will then allow for experimentation with color design. 

For now, getting the downpayment made is important. Find instructions below. Options include Credit Card, cheque and ACH (details to follow).

Pricing is based on the purchase of 10 sails and assumes that all boats in the Fleet will participate in the order/rotation.

Should you have objections to executing the above plan, please let us know as soon as possible, otherwise please make downpayment arrangements as soon as possible.

2. Spinnaker colors.  Obviously a solid color is fairly simple (colors can be found in the color code program, link below) if there are current spinnaker color schemes that boat owners have and want to duplicate a picture of the spinnaker is a good start.  I should have panel layout early next week and will send as soon as I do.  If people want to play around with our spinnaker color program they can do so here:

Sail type = Symmetrical Spinnaker

Sail size = 31 - 48.9 ft

Sail cloth = Superlite/kote  (superkote 75)

Color scheme to play with is most inline with the "Full Horizon"  (we will be matching your existing spinnaker panel layout)

For sure the best performing spinnakers tend to be solid color spinnakers (mono layout), when people want more color in their lives than that either a graphic (we have a full graphics department inhouse) or a top/middle/bottom is best (think horizon layout in the color code program).  

3. Sail numbers, please confirm that you do in fact want sail numbers on the spinnakers and if so what color and what sail number.

Sirius and Creole approve.... but I am not sure it is necessary to wait for a full vote.

Didn't the fleet already vote (after a robust debate) to approve a spinnaker purchase this year and authorize the sail committee to choose a sailmaker and negotiate a fleet purchase. The sail committee solicited bids from several sail makers and chose the North bid. 

Perhaps Graham, our fleet captain, can confirm whether or not the sail committee was expected to bring the bids back to the full fleet for approval. I do not recall that step being required in the past.

The fleet meeting voted to task the sail committee, plus John and Charlie, to make a recommendation.

The committee plus J&C voted unanimously in favor of the proposal. 

Strictly speaking, since votes on the committee make up a quorum the proposal was accepted.

I did however want to give boats not represented on the committee a means to voice their opposition.

Arthur - thank you for the clarification - I suspect between the committee and the affirmative votes on this email thread we now have confirmed by a majority vote the choice of sailmaker for new spinnakers.

but it might not be a bad idea at that price.. 

hopefully the design works for our fleet.. I have not heard much besides color choices…sail committee hopefully is on top of that part .. hoist point is fairly critical…obviously we would want a wide girth kite being a light air venue ..

Charlie had planned to drop off one of our spinakers at the North Portsmouth loft as an example of what we needed.

I’m working on the assumption that this happened and that North is reproducing what we currently have.

Just a reminder: if you haven't done so already, please call NorthSails to make your spinnaker down payments.  They noted that they had only heard from a handful of the fleet whose sails are already under construction in Sri Lanka but the others are pending.

Will just called.

By tomorrow he will get me a spreadsheet with missing downpayment and/or color scheme orders.

I will then followup with each of the boats. 

As long as we get all the payments and orders in by Friday we should be able to receive the sails by mid June.
