Port Fairy Cycling Weekend - on again in 2019

Hi All,

 

Following the resounding success of the weekend in Port Fairy this year another is now planned for 2019. Dates Fri 8^th – Sun 10^th Feb.

 

Format will be similar to this year but some new riding adventures and social activities are being planned. Some enthusiastic riders will be catching the train to Geelong then riding on to PF. Partners are definitely welcome!

 

At the moment we are interested in tentative numbers so let me (or Chris R) know if you’re thinking of coming down. There are plenty of accommodation options in PF and as far as I can tell there’s no big events happening in PF that weekend.

A very good suggestion on Monday from Michael Albo was that we should organise an FIS Cycling weekend at Port Fairy.  An impromptu meeting of the FIS SW Branch was convened at Pepper after the ride to decide on the details.  A sub-committee was formed – the FISSWBPFRWC.

 

As a few of you will be entering the Ballarat Cycle Classic on Sunday 18^th February it was agreed that the previous weekend would be ideal as a training camp to tune up for the ride. We have pencilled in the weekend commencing Friday 9^th to Sunday 11^th February.

 

This email is for expressions of interest in joining us for what promises to be a fun weekend enjoying the dead roads, crater sized pot-holes, cow shit and gale force winds and February heat in SW Victoria.  The plus side is the almost total lack of traffic on the back roads of the region.

 

There are numerous accommodation options ranging from the caravan parks, hotels and holiday house rentals.

 

Getting to Port Fairy is a fairly long drive of 3 ¼  to 3 ½ hours on the Hamilton Highway or the Princes Highway.  Chris Browne and myself can take the group on a number of interesting routes of length varying between 50 and 120 km.

 

If the weather is nice, a recovery swim on the glorious East Beach will re-invigorate tired muscles.

It’s December already and as we are rapidly approaching Christmas your minds will have  turned to when and where is the annual Christmas Party for 2018.

 

The FISACPSCWP (refer below) have had discussions over the last few weeks and have confirmed the event details.

 

Peter and Suzie Gallagher  have offered their home to hold this year’s Christmas Party which will be on Saturday morning the 15^th December 2016.

 

The Address is

Peter and Suzie Gallagher's house of course, actual address to be advised.

 

Importantly for those who were amazed last year at the guest appearance Cardinal Pell unfortunately he will not be able to make it. We are however searching for a replacement this year which we hope will also bring some shock and awh!

 

If you could indicate to Peter and or the FISACPSCWP if you will be attending so that catering can be accommodated correctly, it would be appreciated. Cost this year will be $20 per head.

 

Some of the Special prizes for consideration this year - Chatter box (male and female), Dopey award (one of the seven dwarf's), the perpetual Morris Guerin award, etc...

 

Don't forget to have some Christmas cheer on you and the bike for the ride, come on be brave like Trevor is every year

Please let us know if you are coming so that we can make sure that we have enough food and drinks for the breakfast.

 

Also this year we do have a special guest however due to security reasons we cannot divulge the details at this stage.
