Console "Clear" button hides and clears command windows as well.

Is this the intended function of the button? I'd like to clear clutter from the console window without closing command editor and losing all lines typed in it.

Firebug's Clear button on my systems have never closed or hidden any window or panel; all they do is clear the Console's contents. If I have the Command Editor showing, its contents don't even get cleared. This has always been the way it behaved for me, on both Windows and Mac.

Sorry I forgot to mention I'm on 3.00-alpha.12 - the only version that works with FF multiprocess function.
