Hi All,

I have noticed that Firefox is slow and clunky when using Firebug.  My pages are developed on my local Windows computer using IIS and they take about 5-7 times longer to load when Firebug is activated.  Is this normal?  Or, is it only me?

Thanks for any feedback,

Charles

Firebug causes overhead in working with a website to some extent as it's analyzing the data coming from the page in real time, though it should definitely not be 5-7 times.
Does it make any difference when you disable the Script panel? Do you have a URL, so this can be reproduced?
You may also want to try out the Firebug 2.0 beta (requires Firefox 30+), which has some performance improvements, especially in regard of JavaScript debugging.

Hi,

I have not tried to disable the Script panel, I will try it later.  As for a URL, I have uploaded a page that I'm currently working on here.  The HTML and CSS have been validated so I don't think that is a problem.  On my local computer I see the spinning circle spin 1 way then it spins the other way and it does it a few times.  Sometimes the spinning stops for a second or two also.  I have also seen that a lot of times when my page finishes loading Firebug will appear (not actually take focus - no errors) and I have to click the taskbar on Firebug then click Firefox again.  This gets old.  I don't remember having this many problems but I will be honest, I have started using more often in the last 6-7 months.

Thanks for any input,

Charles

I assume you mean the spinning circle within the browser tab, right? That two circles indicate that the page is loading something. See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/977677#answer-502007.

For me the page takes about 600ms with and without Firebug open. To me it sounds like another extension or some preference could cause your problem. Does it work for you on a fresh profile with just Firebug installed?

Hi,

I have never used Firebug on my Internet website, only while working on my local computer with IIS.  After your report I tried using Firebug on my actual Internet website and find that it actually works better/faster.  I think I can rule out Firebug and search for the problem on my local computer.

Thanks for the help,

Charles

Ok, good to hear. If you find the reason for the slowdown, please let us still know about it. So it helps others to solve their performance issues.
