I've just reset Firebug options, but still no icon in lower right
corner of FF. Running FF 5.0.1. So now to get Firebug open on a
webpage I have to go up into the menu. Would really prefer that icon
in the lower right corner, how do I get it back?
thanks

Right click on the menubars and select customize. You will see it
there, just grab and drag to where you want it

I am in the same situation as the OP, and there is no Firebug icon
when I right click on the status bar and choose Customize. The next
best thing is an "Inspect" icon which opens Firebug and automatically
goes to it's DOM Inspect feature.

I'm also experiencing the Firebug status bar icon missing with v1.8
(FF v5.0). This icon is not the same as what one commenter noted from
Customize Toolbar - I've got up in my regular toobar area at the top
and that toolbar icon provides a dropdown with many settings/options
and such - not like the Status bar icon that is just a click to
directly launch Firebug. All previous versions of Firebug
automatically added this icon to the Status bar.

Without that icon and perhaps indirectly related, Firebug and YSlow
aren't working correctly. Clicking the YSlow icon on the status bar
just brings up a blank attached panel.

Disabling other addons didn't seem to help so I've reverted back to
v1.7.3 and the Firebug Status bar icon is restored and YSlow also
working as before.

I don't think this is a design change since the Firebug documentation
still shows the Status bar icon.

I had this same problem.

I also have the "Organize Status Bar" plug-in installed (not sure if
this plugin causes the problem in the first place, but it can be used
to fix the problem).

I went to "Tools->Organize status bar...", and then selected
fbStatusBar and clicked on the "Hide" button and clicked "OK".

I then went back in, and selected the same item again and clicked on
the "Show" button, and clicked "OK".

This caused the Firebug icon to appear on the status bar once again.

Hello,

No, we don't "see it there." There is no FB icon in the toolbar
customization list. And there is no icon in the right corner of the
status bar.

This is not a feature. I want to be able to open FB on a given page
without having to fiddle with menus.

Thanks.

The status-bar (as we know it from Firefox 3.6) has been marked as
obsolete and replaced by Addon-bar that is hidden by default (since
Firefox 4 I think).

In order to adjust Firebug to this (Firefox) UI change, we have put
the icon into the Firefox toolbar - the icon is inserted into the
toolbar automatically after Firebug is installed.

If you still prefer having Firebug icon at the bottom (in the Addon
bar) you can use the Customize dialog (right click on a toolbar area
and pick 'Customize...') and move the Firebug icon from the toolbar to
addon bar.

Note:
1) There is just one Firebug icon and it can be either in the Firefox
toolbar, customizable dialog or addon bar (or in different toolbar).
So, if you can't see that icon in the customizable dialog check out
all bars in Firefox UI.

2) If you don't see the icon anywhere, try to create a new Firefox
profile with Firebug installed to avoid collisions with another
extension and also to make sure that the problem is not in you current
profile (could be broken).

Hello,

I don't like moving between keyboard and mouse. Agreed, "there's more
than one way to do it."

FB appears to be another tool that is a victim of developers' inability
to stop fiddling with things. Replacing the 'status bar' with the
'add-on' bar? Really? Now, we'll have a slew of add-ons that duplicate
the cast-off functions of the status bar. Brilliant.

Thanks.

Thanks for the Status Bar -> Addon Bar clarification.

But the work around suggested doesn't restore the same FB icon. Prior
to v1.8 the FB icon in the Addon bar doesn't have any dropdown menus
which are pare of the toolbar icon down in the Addon bar.

With v1.7.3 I have both the toolbar icon, in the toolbar, and the
other FB icon that's automatically added in the far right corner of
the Addon bar.

More of an issue for me is that integration with YSlow is broken in
v1.8 which seems to expect the Addon bar FB icon or whatever
functionality it provided - a single click on either the FB or YSlow
Addon icons will start FB in the integrated window. Attempting to use
the toolbar icon down in the Addon bar doesn't work in this case.

Perhaps its also in issue for YSlow to update but for now FB v1.8 has
broken this longstanding and very much desired behavior.

I also have an issue where I was unable to edit any DOM attributes or
CSS rules. I updated to 1.9a and it allowed me to edit DOM properties
and CSS rules, but the font was still quite large. I then reverted
back to 1.7.3 and it all works normally (the Firebug icon came back to
the status bar as well).

I also never liked, that Mozilla replaced the status bar by the
(initially hidden) add-on bar, but the FWG needed to adjust to that.
But as mentioned before it's not really hard to move the icon back to
its ancestral place.

You can bring the old icon back by setting
extensions.firebug.showStatusIcon to true.
Didn't try YSlow with the new version yet, but I'll have a look.

The font problem is covered in http://code.google.com/p/fbug/issues/detail?id=4489.

So, do you think we should remove that drop-down (if the icon is
placed
within addon-bar) to make it bigger? Note that you can still right
click
to get the context menu.

Anyway, you can get the old icon back when you set following pref to
true.
extensions.firebug.showStatusIcon

You need to ask the YSlow team. Of course we are ready to help them.

Firebug 1.8.0 is exactly the same as Firebug 1.9.0a0
So, it looks like a problem in the update process.

This will be fixed in Firebug 1.8.1

I just wanted to add that 1.8.0b7 FB has same problem with icon in
statusbar as explained here. Setting following property return icon
back to its position:

extensions.firebug.showStatusIcon true

(installation was done over older version so it could be the update
process)

For FB 1.8.1b1 and SM 2.2, icon fix does not work any more (I was not
able to convince icon to appear in status bar).

Honza, what about adding an option to Firebug Menu > Options to toggle
extensions.firebug.showStatusIcon?
Another idea would be to offer two different customizable icons, one
with drop-down arrow and one without. Though I can't understand why
people complain about the little arrow.

When I hit F12, it get the icky Debugger, not Firebug.

Also, how come everyone is using a low number of Firefox? I'm up to FireFox 25.0.1

For reference, there's a new thread for this.

Also, how come everyone is using a low number of Firefox?
Because that thread is already years old, maybe? :-)
