For a long time, Firebug has been designed to automatically display <getfirebug.com/firstrun> after restarting Firefox - but now that Firefox doesn't need to be restarted after installing Firebug, this can result in the Firebug page being displayed long after the actual installation, which, in the case of one of my users, resulted in a panicked call to the help desk by a user who thought that Firebug was a virus of some sort.  Can new versions of Firebug be redesigned to display this page immediately after installing?

Sorry for the late reply on this. This is actually by design. See https://code.google.com/p/fbug/issues/detail?id=5888#c19.
Reason behind this is that add-ons can be updated automatically in the background, so the first-run page would appear somewhen in the middle the browser session, which is worse than after a browser restart.

You may want to file a new issue for improving the UX on this.

I read the comments at the link you provided, and I can see that you guys have thought this thru.  I can't say that I agree with your conclusions, but I don't think there's much I could say to change people's minds, since I happen to be one of the people in the minority that refuses to allow any updates to my computers to happen without my explicit consent.

Then again... :-)  Perhaps this function should be tied to the automatic updates setting?  If updates are done automatically, do as you do now, but if not - if the update is being done because the user himself initiated it - the first-run page should be displayed immediately...?
