i am not a programmer (i was 40 years ago, but life was a lot simpler then!), so need a moron's guide to doing it... i enjoy using http://www.bridgebase.com/client/client.php but its choices of alert sounds for certain events ("it's your turn" and "trick taken") during the bidding and play of a bridge game are not convenient for me, so i want to substitute ones of my own choosing.  the client authors have no immediate plans to change their product as far as i know.

i figure the soundfiles must be somewhere in the webpage but can't find them, nor can i find the event functions that play them.  can anyone help?

You can't permanently change things on pages using Firebug. Furthermore the game you link to is based on Flash, to which Firebug itself doesn't have access to. There's an extension for it called FlashFirebug, which lets you inspect elements inside the Flash. Though I assume it doesn't do what you want.

If you didn't already, you should contact them and ask if they implement an option to change the sounds. Unfortunately I don't see another solution (except just turning off the sound, of course).

A proper Flash decompiler like Sothink's probably allows you to do that. You might also need some sort of local proxy to make the SWF think it's hosted on the correct server.
