How to install Firebug 3 in Firefox 44?

I get an error that the add-on has not been verified, so could not be installed. Is there a way to install Firebug 3 in Firefox 44?

That error is displayed, because the current version of Firebug 3 is not signed yet.
Therefore, to install it, you need to go to about:config and set the preference xpinstall.signatures.required to false.

OK, actually I cannot get it to work. It installed all right, but how do I open Firebug? Both pressing [F12] and clicking on the Firebug toolbar icon opens the built-in Firefox inspector.

Firebug 3 is just a theme for the built-in Firefox DevTools. So if you installed it correctly, you'll have a radio button within their options panel to switch to it:
