We are considering moving a significant portion of our application to Firebase. Any recent links that you can provide that will help us in this process would be great. In particular, we are looking for information on:

  • Roadmap
  • Stability and maturity of the platform (customers, data storage limits, SLAs for enterprise customers, response times, etc)
  • Positioning of Firebase within the Google cloud platform – this will help allay any fears regarding the future of Firebase within Google

I found these, but they do not directly address our concerns:

Hi Ruku, the Google I/O developer conference is just around the corner. Usually that's a good time to hear about the latest news for Google products and services, including Firebase :)

Hi there! Great questions.

We don't publish a public roadmap or provide release dates on features. Sorry.

I'd recommend that you base your planning on the current feature set of Firebase and not on any future work we may do. The only certainty about priorities is that they change and the only certainty about development is that it always takes longer than we hope.  ; )

For stability, I'd recommend checking out our case studies. You can see that there are serious apps using us for serious numbers of active daily users.

As for positioning of Firebase within Google and specifically in relation to GCP, I'd recommend tuning in for Google I/O as Michael pointed out moments ago. This is on everybody's minds and I hope to hear it addressed then.

☼, Kato
