READ ERROR - Could not read directory. Remove symbolic links / shortcuts and try again.

How do I correct this? My app is sitting on a folder on my desktop. There are no shortcuts that I can think of unless creating a folder on your desktop automatically generates a shortcut or symbolic link.

Please assist.

Hi Jon,

I've got some suggestions for you:

• Use these instructions to verify if you have any symbolic links in your current directory. My bet is that you do and you're just not seeing them. Removing the symbolic link should resolve your issue.
  
• Make sure you are not deploying your desktop folder! Make sure you cd into your app folder and do a firebase deploy from there.
• Update to the latest version of the Firebase CLI by doing npm update -g firebase-tools.

If you still have issues and think this is actually a bug on our end, please let us know.

The instructions don't tell me how to remove the links, it just shows me how to list them. I have yet to find anything online to tell me how to remove them.  How can I tell if they are symbolic? I have firebase running fine on my other mac at home. There is no difference in how I set things up.

My file structure looks like this:

/Users/tsp/Desktop/freeze/take-a-bite

Anything out of the ordinary?

You can use "unlink <file>" or just "rm <file>" to remove a symbolic link.

By 'remove' we mean 'delete', or at the very least replace with the actual file instead of a shortcut to it. If you have a directory that's built for you (such as node modules or bower components) they might contain links and might differ from environment to environment. Otherwise if you're using source control to share between devices, that might differ between environments too
