Firebase to be self hosted?

Hi everyone,

I have some issues with data to be stored on servers outside of my country.

Is it possible to have firebase self hosted?

If not, what is the closest solution that allow self hosted?

Hi Jacob,

I'm planning to have 2 versions of my apps.

1 based on firebase which I would use most of the time.

However when comes to data which have to reside within the country itself, I plan to use something self hosted.

Is firebase actually based on mongodb? Something like what's being offered at https://mongolab.com/

Or firebase does much more? I wonder what would be a self hosted solutions look like.

Lastly where are firebase servers located? Any datacenter location in Malaysia?

Hi Jom,

I am not familiar with MongoLab, so I can't speak on that. But yes, Firebase does more than just the realtime database. We also have an authentication service and a static asset hosting service. We do not do push notifications, but some users have worked something out using Firebase as a trigger for Zapier. We hope to have a fully hosted solution for this in the future.

As for where our servers are located, they are all in the United States. We do not have any in Malaysia. We are working hard to leverage Google's global datacenters, but that is a huge project for us.
