Hello

I am in the process of upgrading my FED3.0 in order for them to send all inputs wirelessly to Home Assistant. The idea is simply to duplicate the pin from the arduino to the Xiao Seed nrf52840, a very small BLE/zigbee board.
Does anyone ever tried? any sucess?

Also, is there someone that tried to increase the pellet holder (in hight) to increase maximum number of pellet it can hold?

Does the XIAO have enough pins?

The xiao have 12 pins. So enough for all outputs and even inputs if needed. I am duplicating the input power from the battery to have a very easy system for home!

Adafruit sells ESP32-S3 feather boards, which might be an easier swap as the pinout is identical to the Feather M0 in FED3 (although check this, they sometimes swap one GPIO for another GND pin on some models).  I know some people have experimented with this approach for wireless logging with FED3 but I'm not aware of any easy instructions on how to do it.  One challenge with this is that I haven't found a feather-compatible ESP32 board that also has an SD card, so you lose local logging unless you add an external SD card module.  The other challenge is setting up the cloud infrastructure, although if you can do it with Home Assistant that's great.

Please update the group if you get something working!

I was thinking of conserving the Feather M0 and just hijacking the pin to duplicate the output (right, left poke, sound, light or pellets) as well as power into the Seed Xiao, which should allow having both SD card and BLE system with a very limited action on the already existing FED design. A quick design like that. One will just need to unplug the Feather and place this PCB between the FED3 PCB and the Feather (Design is very bad due to the presence of the Feather on the PCB, but you get the idea).
I am running a test PCB printing right now will let you know when JLCPCB send the boards.
