Hello all,

I am attempting to print the FED3.1 nosepieces in steel via Craftcloud, which connects customers with a multitude of individual 3D printing companies. I have noticed that some of the cheaper options don't print at the resolution that the nosepiece .stl file is designed with (i.e. the wall thickness is less that 0.5 mm in some places and 0.5 mm is the lower limit for some companies). Does anyone have an edited .stl file that circumvents this issue?

Thanks!

Hi Paige!  I'm reluctant to modify the nosepiece as it will require printing and testing to make sure the FED3 still detects the pellet as expected with the modification.  However, I've had the thickness issue come up a lot with commercial printers and I've told them just to go ahead and print it anyway and it has always worked out for me.  I did that with WeNext.com printing this nosepiece in stainless steel and they came out great for ~$12 per nosepiece.  You'll be taking a bit of a risk as they won't refund you if the part doesn't come out well, but it's a fairly cheap risk.

That said, if you also want to modify the nosepiece yourself you can clone the TinkerCAD designs here and go for it! https://www.tinkercad.com/things/0QaiVw7KR3Y-fed33ddesigns

Good luck! -Lex

Hi all,

As an update, I printed 5 nosepieces in steel from IN3DTEC and all turned out perfectly functional! They were $3.90/unit + $20 shipping and I ordered through CraftCloud.

Best,
Paige

I had to reup on these as well and just placed an order today as well. I'll report back with a pic once they get here.
