What are the main advantages of FDS over WFDS in case of fire spread over vegetation? Which one is better nowadays?  Can anyone tell me with reference?

We have extensively used WFDS in our recent studies. It is computationally much less expensive than FDS and we have well-established validation cases with proper convergence studies.

However, FDS has many more features such as &GEOM, VLES & SVLES turbulence model, MOST etc. Moreover, for grassfires, it does not rely on a “maximum MLR”. Therefore, we are currently trialing FDS. If we find that, the computational cost is prohibitive, we will keep using WFDS.

The WFDS executable is based on a deprecated version of FDS. It does not include many bug fixes inlcuding fixes to heat transfer and solid phase reactions. I would strongly recommend using the current release of FDS and follow the User Guide example for defining WUI inputs for the current release of FDS.

You can define volumes within the computational domain and obtain HRR within each. But these are non-moving volumes. There is no clear distinction between head and flank HRR.

Sure sir,
Is it possible to get values of HRR of flank fire and head fire in FDS? Like I have attached fds file about C064 expt of  grassland fire
