There was a question asked in 2011 whether "oz" in metric_serving_unit indicated fluid ounces, or weight. The question does not have a response, unfortunately.

Can someone confirm that "oz" is always fluid, or always weight? If not, then how do we determine whether a product is liquid or solid food?

Thank you!

Thanks for reaching out.
Oz would be weight and fl oz would be liquid i.e. fluid ounces

That said, there is no parameter or data point to differentiate between a 'solid' or 'liquid' food item as part of our API or database

Thanks. Regarding “fl oz,” the documentation does not indicate that as being a possible value in that field. Is that just an omission in the docs?

Thanks, all serving size options are unique to the country and language i.e. where fl oz is common (e.g. US) this serving size option will be available for the vast majority of generics.
The logic is different for branded/manufactured foods where we only publish one/the most commonly used/the manufacturer provided serving size option.
