I could swear I once read a book passage that touched on the refrain (the "I'll march to Canaan's land" bit) that appended itself to PILGRIM'S FAREWELL. My guess was that this passage was in Daniel C. L. Jones's comments on Harmony of Harmony in the Music of the New American Nation, but, one interlibrary loan later, I can confirm that that's not the source. Does anybody know what I'm talking about?

Erin,

It might be from the article, “Farewell, poor world! I must be gone” https://www.hymnologyarchive.com/farewell-poor-world-i-must-be-gone?utm_source=vitalsparks.beehiiv.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=traveling-to-camp which I used in my Vital Sparks essay “Traveling to camp” https://vitalsparks.beehiiv.com/p/traveling-to-camp

Best,

Will
