Are there any of you non builder, RV / experimental aircraft owners that would like to get a repairman certificate that will allow you to sign off your own annual condition inspection?

There are companies that will come to Falcon Field and conduct a 2 day, 16 hour course. The successful completion of this course allows you to apply for an FAA Repairman certificate for any Experimental Amateur built Aircraft which you own or one you may purchase in the future. You do not have to be the builder. This certification never expires and there is no requirement for recurring training. You simply have to have successfully completed the 16hr course in the category you fly (aircraft). The class is two days 8am to 5pm. The estimated cost is $500.

If there is enough interest I will contact the companies that conduct the class about coming to Falcon Field.

Please reply to me if you're interested.

I’m interested also, but I don’t think I can fully qualify for the certificate because my plane is registered under an LLC.  I think the rule states that it has to be registered in an individual’s name.  Still, I would like to take the class.

Jim,

I took this course back in 2015 when I was new to the RV and GA world. I found my LSRIA certificate from Rainbow Aviation. I assume this provision to get the FAA repairman certificate is part of MOSAIC?

I think the FAA form to apply is FAA 8610-3 but it is not obvious to me which boxes to select. I am sure they will have gouge on that in the course. LMK if they cover how to apply.

Thanks

FYI: After my build I registered the airplane in an S-Corp and was still issued a Repairman's Certificate. This course sounds like a great opportunity.

Hi Guys, that was fast.

I just spoke with Rainbow Aviation about teaching the course at Falcon Field.
The cost for their traveling course is $650 per person. $500 if you go to them in Missouri. The instructor can take up to 20 persons in a single class, it's up to the individual instructor. They would like to work with an EAA chapter vs an individual which I know we have. They are currently don't have any availability until next summer. June / July time frame. We also need a classroom that can accommodate 20 persons. Any ideas where we can get a room?
I currently have 25 persons that are interested. I'll see about getting 2 classes.

What about the room at the CAF? I have used it before. Definitely will hold 25+ folks.

Does anyone know our local EAA Chapter and who is an officer?

If your RV aircraft registration shows ownership by an LLC (and you didn't build the airplane), then the 2-day short course won't satisfy the new MOSAIC inspection rule.
Your name must be listed on the registration certificate to qualify.

EAA Chapter 6

Used to meet at CCO but now meets at FFC. I was an officer several years ago but then.. kids.. so that was short lived.

Patrick Flowers is the current president. They are looking for more members and activity in the group to keep it alive. One of the oldest chapters that's still active.

Does this certificate cover Airframe only or does it include Powerplant ?

Hi Guys,

I have found a local instructor who is willing to teach the Repairman Certificate course at Falcon Field for $525 per person. We are currently working to finalize dates and times, likely for early next year.

The class size will be limited. More details, including firm dates and how to officially commit with payment, will be shared once available, especially since the FAA is currently closed.

If you have already expressed your interest, I will send you a direct email with further information.

Please stand by for updates.
