Repaired pin hole leak on top of boiler where heat exchanger exits top of boiler next to safety valve.

  • I used soft solder for the repair, the first two repairs failed due to my poor technique and contamination.   I was successful on third try
    • Other work done at time, Replaced: 3 way solenoid valve (reused solenoid), safety valve, pressurestat, boiler fill tube (located on bottom of boiler).
    • Copper tubing had become hardened and would probably leak when reassemble, to mitigate potential leaks during reassembly, i heat annealed all the flaired ends with a propane torch.
    • I also soaked everything in citric acid to remove scale (Almost zero due to soften water) and to remove corrosion from a slow leak (reason for pin hole).
    • I added teflon tape to all the threaded parts to aid future disassembly.
    • I experienced zero leaks on reassembly.
    • I did add a ground to the pressurestat (it wasn't grounded before).
  • This is the third time i have had the machine apart in the 10 years i have owned it.....Total cost of materials $200 approx.
  • While my machine was out of service i was using my PID'd Gaggia classic...which needs a major overhaul now!
  • First shot after letting the machine drain the boiler once was really good after two months of the Gaggia.

Notes:
1.  Solder 95/5, water soluble flux
2.  1/4" Wide teflon tape
3.  "Millard Brand" Citric acid-5 lb bag.
4.  Boiler fill tube (fabricated from  EXPOBAR - BOILER HEAT EXCHANGER INJECTOR - PN: EX1538)
5.  Pressurestat from ebay some time ago
6.  Lucifer 3 way valve off ebay.
7.  This time I purchased most parts from https://www.espressounderground.co.uk, good prices, but it took a long time to receive parts.

I wish I could put my C85 back into operation.  We sold our home and bought a retirement villa.  Not enough room in the kitchen.  It now sits in a closet.  I bought a Quick Mill Anderja Premium.
