Gents,Ā

I sent this via groupme for discussion.Ā  Hoping for some feedback on how to right in the new mechanism so that nothing is lost, but the system is moreĀ streamlined.Ā Ā

OfficialĀ vote thread to follow whenĀ language is finalized.Ā Ā

šŸ“œ Proposed Amendment:

Change the trade processing time from 24 hours to instant.

🧠 Rationale:

  • In 16 years of EC, no trade has ever been vetoed.

  • A veto requires 6 "nay" votes from non-involved owners (50% + 1), and no trade has received more than 3 that I can recall.Ā  It's a very highĀ bar.Ā Ā

  • The current 24-hour waiting period adds unnecessary friction:

    • 24 wait shortens the window for team to be able to trade, already shortened because of our wednesday night waivers (will be another amendment proposal)Ā

    • the 24 hour window sometimes hinders teams in 2-1 or similar trades from participating in the waiver FAAB runĀ

    • Multi-team trades (like last season’s attempt to do a 3-team deal) are delayed to 48 hours unnecessarily

    • Owners must monitor the league constantly to adjust lineups post-trade, especially when they process close to NFL game loc.Ā Ā

šŸ”Ā New Mechanism: Owner-Initiated Trade Review

  • Any ownerĀ may request a league-wide vote on a trade within 24 hours of the trade taking place.Ā Ā

  • The vote window remainsĀ 24 hours.Ā Ā

  • If the trade is vetoed by majority (6 "nay" votes), theĀ commissioner will reverse the trade, and reset rosters to pre-trade - even if the NFL game has started - in the case of an NFL game starting, an alternate will be named.Ā Ā (this is coverage for an outlier case, but I want to have a clear path forward here)Ā

šŸ›”ļøĀ ALL Protections Remain:

Existing safeguard against collusion stays unchanged:

  • The League can still vote to veto a trade, nothing is lostĀ
  • There is still a failsafe ā€œThe Commissioner retains the right to overturn any trade where collusion is suspected. This action must be documented by email and posted to the League page, and it must occur before the next regularly scheduled NFL game.ā€

šŸ” Summary: What Changes vs What Doesn’t

Current SystemProposed System
24-hour delay on all tradesĀ  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Trades process immediately
League can vote to vetoĀ  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Still allowed (via owner-initiated call)
Harder to execute 3-team dealsĀ  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Easier, due to real-time flexibility
Owners must time lineup changesĀ  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  More freedom and responsiveness
Collusion safeguard via CommishĀ  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Still in place, unchanged

āœļø Closing:

Final bylaw language still in the works, but this outlines the intent: streamline the trade process without removing any safeguards.

Commish

This is a no brainer. Collusion is not a problem in our league. With Thursday night games every week, the 24hr window is a hindrance all season.Ā The fact you can still call a veto helps the mouth-breathers.

Yay

That is a vote in favor of the amendment in Chinese.Ā  Somebody has to bring a little bit of culture to this week.
