Dear EvoAPPS 2018 track chairs,

I hope you're doing well!
We need your help in three issues:

1.- Can you propose a name for the role of Publication Chair?
Ideally it should be someone who
  • is not too senior
  • but not too inexperienced either, so that s/he can be the next EvoAPPS Coordinator
  • has been previously involved in EvoAPPS
  • can devote the time required to prepare the proceedings around February
  • reliable
  • a woman
2.- Below is a list of keywords that have been included as "secondary topics" in MyReview (adapted from GECCO) Do you think the list is complete? Can you think of any additions/modifications?
  1. Aerospace industry
  2. Agriculture & farming
  3. Automobile industry
  4. Bioinformatics
  5. Biology
  6. Business planning and operations research
  7. Chemical engineering & chemistry
  8. Civil engineering, architecture & construction
  9. Computer aided/automated design
  10. Control Engineering
  11. Cyber-physical systems
  12. Data mining
  13. Decision making
  14. Design/synthesis
  15. Earth sciences and the environment
  16. Electrical engineering
  17. Electronics
  18. Energy and utilities
  19. Entertainment and media
  20. Finance
  21. Food
  22. Linguistics, language and speech
  23. Manufacturing
  24. Mathematical modelling/curve fitting
  25. Mechanical engineering
  26. Medicine
  27. Morphogenesis
  28. Classification
  29. Prediction/forecasting
  30. Process monitoring
  31. Psychology
  32. Routing and layout
  33. Security (including cybersecurity) and Defence
  34. Simulation optimization
  35. Software tools
  36. System identification
  37. Telecommunications
  38. Time-tabling and scheduling
  39. Transportation

Thanks & BR

Hi Anna,

Bing would meet your criteria, but she can't do for 2019 since she will
be too busy for CEC 2019 (and GECCO women events). We can consider her
in later years.

Cheers

Affective computing / Sentiment Analysis ?

Isn't "Classification" too generic (and possibly already obviously
included in pattern recognition) with respect to the other topics ?

What about Carola Doerr?

I'm afraid she's Theory "through and through", not applications, and she's never been involved in evoAPPS.
Plus, she's got two small children, I doubt she'll had the time required (I know she's had this problem in the past)

If you relax one of the requirements :-D I could propose Evelyne Lutton

ok

In the original list it was actually Pattern recognition and classification, but since PR is already included in the Image thematic area, I removed it. But you can get both Pattern recognition AND classification outwith Image processing, can't you?

Below is the list of the 43 remaining keywords used by GECCO, split into 5 blocks (the one I sent went under the title "Applications"). But perhaps this is a bit too long. What do you think?

Algorithm analysis:

    Algorithm engineering / Experimental algorithmics
    Empirical study
    Fitness landscapes
    Performance measures
    Running time analysis
    Working principles of evolutionary computing

Algorithmic aspects:

    Adaptation/self-adaptation
    Fitness evaluation
    GUI-visualization
    Heuristics
    Hybridization
    Implementation
    Parallelization
    Parameter tuning
    Representations
    Selection
    Speedup techniques
    Surrogate model/fitness approximation

General methodology:

    Ant algorithms
    Big Data / Data mining
    Classifier systems
    Co-evolution
    Developmental methods
    Differential Evolution
    Estimation of Distribution Algorithms
    Evolution strategies
    Evolutionary programming
    Evolutionary robotics
    Genetic algorithms
    Genetic programming
    Local search
    Metaheuristics
    Multi-agent systems
    Neural networks /Deep Learning
    Particle swarm optimization
    Scatter and tabu search
    Swarm intelligence
    System identification

Others:
    Artificial intelligence
    Machine learning

Problem characteristics:
    Combinatorial optimization
    Constraint handling
    Dynamical optimization
    Multi-objective optimization
    Multiple solutions / Niching
    Noisy optimization
    Non-separable problems
    Recombination operators
    Robustness of solutions

Speedup techniques are mostly related to parallelization. Otherwise, if
the speedup is offered by an algorithmic change, it may be included in
the same category as the algorithm to which it is applied.

Swarm Intelligenece and PSO could be a single topic

Metaheuristics ... aren't all evolutionary algorithms metaheuristics ?
This seems to lie on a different logical level wrt the other terms.

Where would you place 'meta-optimization'?
