Bill Gates new talk on COVID-19

Bill Gates just gave a new Ted Talk via video conferencing, it starts to get really interesting about 4 minutes in, even more interesting 20 minutes in. Gates says it's too late for the US to avoid virtually shutting down the economy for 6 to 10 weeks if it wants to avoid 3 to 5 million deaths from COVID-19. For reference, 407 thousand American soldiers died in WW2.

I am exhibiting symptoms of Covid-19. In the mornings until about noon I have a dry cough with headache and dizziness. My sense of smell is different as well. My breathing is more shallow. I have been this way for nearly a week. I don't know for sure if this is the illness, but I actually hope so. If this is all there is then it is a cake walk.  

The severity of this illness seems to depend on immune response. If one's immune system responds fairly normally this illness is fairly mild and many present no symptoms. For those with autoimmune problems, where the immune system goes haywire, this does appear to be deadly. People with diabetes, Kron's disease, Lupis etc are facing real trouble.

Donald t'Rump wants to end the self-quarantine by April 12. That will be a big gamble. He is gambling on this disease receding away more quickly than the epidemiologists are saying, and that the severity is reduced. I ran some numbers based on an epidemiology model and I figured that if the US does nothing, we would have 500,000 to 2 million deaths. Of course there is much uncertainty here. Our President, who has difficulty making even words like "and" and "the" truthful, is gamboling with everything. He may end up by next autumn being referred to as President Death.

As I said, if I have the infection then great. This is not a problem for me. I am really trying to self-confine. That is proving to be a bit tough. My only outdoor activity is walking the dogs. I fortunately have a fair stock of food, so I have enough for more than a week. I worry about maybe infecting others.

Lol. It shows how easy you can make a wise intelligent Löbian machine from a foolish one living at the antipode of the Löbian modesty and cautiousness. Now, that mask itself might not be much Löbian. Trump should understand all this by himself, but he is overwhelmed by its over-developed ego. 

I sincerely hope the US churches will not be crowded in April, as Trump wishes. That would not help anybody, neither the believers in the Churches, nor the “believers” out of the Churches.

The problem is that many parameters are still unknown, but some range of them are known, and the basic conclusion is that packing the Church in April might be a very bad idea.

I am not sure million of people would follow Trump, but it is hard to say. There is some cult of personality at play here, which is already hard to understand for the US.

Some cynical people might remark that if those millions of people go to Church, many of them will die, and Trump might loose the election by killing some proportion of its base voters! It is democratic natural selection. 

The problem is that those people will kill many one outside the Church too. In a pandemic, we are all concerned by the misbehaviour of the others. 

Trump should be … impeached, since long. But the GOP is worst than Trump by enabling him to pursue his threat on democracy, and now life itself.

The senate vote against impeachment remains a bit of a mystery to me.  It really looked like a Soviet style of trial. I thought they would at least fake to be fair and listen to the witnesses. No one is talking about Bolton and his book anymore… Sad period of time, but not astonishing, given the Hemp/Petrol wrong turn, and the older separation between human and exact science (a tyran trick). We are still in the obscurantist period, we have not left the Middle-Âge, … we have even regressed a lot.
