Trump and Sharknado

I learned something new today, there is a connection between Donald Trump and the grade D Sharknado movies, two in fact. In 2015 the producers of Sharknado 3 wanted Sarah Palin to play the part of president but she said no so they went with their second choice Donald Trump. Trump said yes he would do it so a contract was drawn up and sent to him, but he kept delaying signing it, when asked why Trump's personal attorney Michael Cohen (the lawyer that ended up in prison) said "Donald's thinking about making a legitimate run for the presidency, so this might not be the best time, we'll get back to you". The producers got tired of waiting so they gave the part to another actor. Almost as soon as it was announced Trump's lawyer called the producers and said "How dare you? Donald wanted to do this. We're going to sue you! We're going to shut the entire show down!"

That's not Trump's only connection with Sharknado. During a presidential briefing on a hurricane that was threatening the US Trump said "They start forming off the coast of Africa, as they're moving across the Atlantic, we drop a atom bomb inside the eye of the hurricane and it disrupts it. Why can't we do that?" The stunned meteorologist could just say "we will look into that sir". And a bomb going off in a hurricane is the plot of several Sharknado movies.

And the other connection is "grade D".

Why is it that people think a nuclear bomb would do this? It also might stem from the idea of using nuclear bombs to destroy killer asteroids. That is also stupid. A 100 ton mass could be tugged by an ion propulsion unit so the gravitational attraction to the asteroid and the mass is equal to the thrust. It would work; I wrote a paper on this. For a nuclear detonation to have any influence on a hurricane it would have to be a Tsar-Bomba 70-megaton device. That might have an effect, but it could well turn out this just pumps more energy into the hurricane and boosts its power. That is just as reasonable a possibility as thinking you can destroy a hurricane. 

I never saw the Sharknado films. They struck me as silly and Brent's comment on grade D is on the mark. I sort of wish t'Rump had done it, then in 2016 we might have had some pause about making him the actual president.
