Remove Security Right to Create Items?

Does anyone know the simplest way to remove a user's ability to create items? 

Is it the "Item: Add" right? Doesn't seem to be...

Yes it is "Item: Add",

it seems working in Everest version 5.x

We're on 5.0.2.6 but when I removed the right from the "Purchasing" group I could still add items...Maybe I needed to log out and back in first?

Login out and in is a good idea. Also, check that the permission hasn’t been assigned individually to the user and also that is not part of another group.

Make sure the right is not added to both individual users as well as say "Everyone" or other global groups which the user may also belong to. Because it is removed from "purchasing" will not matter if "everyone" has it and they are in that group.
