Happy 4th of July EVBC.
On my 64 Valiant the gas gauge tends to drop to E after it hits around 1/2 a tank. I still have around 9 Gals left in the tank. The needle returns to full after I fill it up.
I have replaced the sending unit and ground strap with the same results Now all I have is a lot of confusion.
Anyone have any Ideas or solutions to this glitch?

Hey Becca Are you still out there?

Thanks in Advance.

The Chinese gas gauge replacements are notorious for being pieces of s#!t. Apparently a 'good' one is well over $100. Not a true 'fix', but you could top off your tank (16 gal?) and set your trip odometer. Unless you know what gas mileage you're getting, you could guess 15-20 mpg and when you have gone around 225 miles, you'd know it's time to start looking to top it off. Before refueling, check the gauge to see if it shows anything. If it does, you might be able to live with it. If not, you're SOL & will need to use your trip odometer as your gas gauge & reset every time you refuel.

Is it the gauge or the sender that’s the issue? If you hook up an ohmmeter between the post and the ground at the tank, it should tell you if the sender is giving the correct resistance. If so, the gauge is the issue. If not, something is going on with the sender end. I can’t remember at the moment what the mopar range is and which end is which, but if you check that resistance full, empty and in the middle it will definitely rule the sender in or out as a problem.

I was reading this post and looked at the 65 service manual and it mentioned a Mopar gauge tester C-3826. Searching for that online I found this page. https://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/threads/homemade-gauge-test-tool-c-3826.179517/
He describes how he made one of these testers and gives the ohms that they are supposed to be. According to him the empty reading is 73.7 ohms,1/2 full is 23 ohms and full is 10.2 ohms. Hope that helps. Barry

I have a 65 valiant and changed the complete unit in the tank and ended up with the same problem. The only good thing is if you fill up when the gauge reads empty you will never run out of gas. Better this way than if it was the other way around.
