Incidently the Tilak Archives mentions that this pic is at Akola 🤔

When we joined COEP in 1969, there were two Eighters with us and they were the novelties then. But when Lokmanya Tilak took a ride in the Tub four [As you see in the image] I am sure even the Tub four must be a novelty then in COEP and I have not heard of a boat club in Akola but if some function is held at Akola, then COEP boats might have been taken to Akola for the function, and this probability is not ruled out.
Off late the bridge has come up across our boat club and that is a eyesore now, but 50 years back it was thickly grown up jungle and we were under the impression of the existence of the wildlife animal's across our boat club.
Please note that, IIT Mumbai is on the bank's of Powai lake's and very close to Borivali National park a Tiger sanctuary and the Tiger's used to sneak in to the IIT Mumbai hostel premises.
Very close to Powai lake, there is institution specialized in industrial engineering and they used to conduct the short term courses, and our staff used to attend the courses and the morning walks in the premises was not allowed. Ones, team of our engineers adventured deep into the jungle only to be greeted by the sight of the Tigers. Please note that i am saying is a Tiger's and not the Leopards.
The entire team ran back towards the hostel and as a penalty, our company was banned from attending the courses for the year. This episode was told by Mr.Y.R.Shah the HOD Industrial engineering department in our Tea club, when I was very much present there.
Incidentally, when our IIT Mumbai completed 50 year's, there was a gettogther of the Alumnies in USA and it was attended by the Bill Gates, when he narrated a very interesting story as follows,
I think, he is from Massachusetts and the Coffee club there was on the verge of closure in absence of the patronage, but the nature's trail club at IIT Mumbai got a momentum when the Tiger's from the Borivali National park started visiting IIT premises for a stroll.
I wish, the jungle opposite our boat club would have remained intact, and we would have a glimpse of the Tiger's sipping the waters from the river opposite our club.
May be in early days of our college days, the jungle around might be inhabited by the wild animals, and there must be the recorded events in our college archives.
I am forwarding this mail to our college and hope they will go through the archives and report the incidence if any.
