Marc Duchen, District 10 Councilmember, has posted on the City Council Message Board that he plans to make a motion to postpone Agenda Item 17, the item to purchase the property for the navigation center. I plan to be at City Hall at 10 AM just to confirm, and speak if allowed.

Do you happen to know if they'll make a decision tonight on if they will delay the vote, or is that a decision that they will make tomorrow?

Frm data I saw just today, there may be a deadline for the city to sign the purchase contract for the property. I do NOT know if this is correct. I saw people who I believe were connected to the K Star business that never got going at 2401 this week with a truck from Cothran's, the locksmith. I expect the locks were being changed and the KStar people had to get whatever they needed out of the building. Be prepared for the vote to proceed Thursday.

The motion to postpone will be made tomorrow morning at 10 AM when the Consent Agenda is voted on.

Kirk Watson responded to Duchen’s request for postponement. He’s not taking foot off the gas to purchase.

Yesterday at our block party, José Velásquez said the deadline to purchase is not something he is worried about and can be moved. 
I’m not sure if I believe him but it’s what he told me.

A small win, but I will take it, A delay will give citizens more opportunities to voice their opinions. 
FYI, A journalism student from UT wants to interview me about this issue, They want to write an article. 
Anyone who would like to speak to him can let me know so I can give him their contact info. 
I plan to walk him thru the area so he understands what is actually happening.

Earlier today, the City CAustin City Council site said that item 17 was pulled, but now I see that it passed with an 8 to 3 vote.

No one should be surprised or discouraged because of this vote. We knew this was a done deal. What is surprising is that we managed to get this item moved off the Consent Agenda, and that three Council members voted against it. From the first announcement we knew that the only recourse would be a legal action. We should continue on this course, because a lawsuit will be the only leverage we have for negotiations.

For this legal recourse you are mentioning, is there someone leading this? What are the next steps? How can residents, home-owners, parents from the surrounding area best support?

Yes, there is someone leading the charge!  One of the SRCC members has already retained legal counsel and that atty will be giving the Neighborhood Execs an update on Oct 26th.  And those execs will be disseminating info to their respective Neighborhoods.  I am currently working with that SRCC person and looking for a location that will hold 15-20 ppl.  Any suggestions?  

Malcolm, what about reserving that room in the Health & Wellness Center at Oltorf & Montopolis?

October 26 is Sunday, when the Health and Wellness Center is not open. Could we have the meeting at the LaQuinta again? That is a central location.

LaQuinta does not have a conf room for us to gather however; we are welcome to use the Lobby if we don’t find another location.  I’m also looking to see if we can meet at the Art for the People or maybe Donn’s BBQ.
