to EMAN2

Dear all,

I am processing tomograms and doing sub-tomogram averaging. All is OK up to now. I got a map with an overall resolution of 4.5 A.

Now I want to re-extract smaller particles at different positions of the map for refinement.

I want to follow the procedure described in the "Advance tutorial of EMAN2 tomography workflow" using filter tool and re-extract smaller particles at different positions of the original refined tomogram.

When I try to start the filter tool (e2filtertool.py) I got the Following error:

"The following processors encountered errors during processing of 1 or more images:('mask.beamstop', {'value1': 0.0, 'value2': 0.0, 'value3': 0.0})"

and the filter tool software crashes.

The filter tool was working before I update eman2 to the last version.

Here the output from e2version.py:

EMAN 2.99.72 ( GITHUB: 2026-04-07 15:23 - commit: ad8223d96 )

Your EMAN2 is running on: Linux-4.18.0-425.3.1.el8.x86_64-x86_64-with-glibc2.28 4.18.0-425.3.1.el8.x86_64

Your Python version is: 3.12.13

My operating system is Rocky linux 8.7

I thank you for your help!

Marc

It looks like you created a default filter set including a "mask.beamstop" filter, which is used with electron diffraction patterns, not volumes. It isn't supposed to crash, it's supposed to just display the error and leave you with a blank display, then you can just update the filter to one which works. If this one is crashing on you, the quick solution is to delete the file "filtertool_default.txt". The filtertool_*.txt files contain all of the settings you see in the GUI. _default is loaded when the program launches, so if you somehow get something in there which causes filtertool to crash rather than just display an error, then removing this file should solve the issue.

Ok !
It works without any problem after deleting the filtertool_default.txt file
Thank you !
