This library will add that ability: https://github.com/ferd/erlang-history

Has anyone actually used this library? It seems concerning considering the hoops you have to jump through to get it running. Furthermore, the FAQs: https://github.com/ferd/erlang-history#is-this-going-to-be-in-otp

I don't know if it is best to recommend this library as it may produce larger problems for those that adopt it.

The request for IEx history is a real one, and I realize the problem has to be solved in OTP itself. Is this something we can try and push for?

I do think a first class solution would be best, but I have successfully used this library for a few years now. Installation for me was always as easy as just make install.

I have also successfully used that in the past. I think the only reason I stopped was when I updated Erlang versions and never bothered to reinstall it. I agree that having something first class would be better.
