Status of make compiler pull request (4134)

This pull request adds support for a make compiler. Since the beginning of April, it doesn't look like there has been any progress on it. I was wondering what needs to be done and if I can help.

I'm the author of the PR and yeah, the PR has been stuck for a while but I would say for lack of a clear set of things to do more than anything else. We can discuss what needs to be done to close it up, and I can do that sooner than later hopefully :).

The Make compiler will definitely be part of the 1.3 release. So while there is no work happening now, it will happen at some point before 1.3, and that is the part that matters. :)
