Why isn't Open edX a participating organisation in Google Summer of Code ( GSoC ) ?

Is edX not eligible ? 

I think edX will get a lot of lifelong contributors through GSoC. Students would want to take courses on the platform they contributed to and students would be likely to contribute to the platform that helped them learn so much. It works both ways :)

If edX was an organisation on GSoC, it would be an awesome opportunity for both students and edX.  After all, edX really wants more and more students to learn, right ?
