I would like to implement simple x-y coordinate graphing in edX. The use case I am imagining is students being able to select from a variety of data sets and then a graph being generated based on their selection. Any suggestions for how to implement this?

Thanks!

Hi, Drew!

If you have a fairly small number of data sets and they're not too big, you might be able to do this by embedding Desmos. If embedding is bad or Desmos doesn't work for this for other reasons, you might also be able to use d3 (or c3, which is a lot easier) and make a drop-down menu that updates a graph.

Hi

UQx has developed a graphing LTI that uses d3.js to plot student added datasets. The code is available on github: https://github.com/UQ-UQx/graph

Hello!

An important question: do you want the student's selection to be graded (e.g. "choose the dataset which illustrates a bimodal distribution"), or do you just want an ungraded interactive tool you can embed in course content?

(Also, what type/size of dataset are you hoping to visualize?)

Best,
Martin
