OpenEDX custom courses

Hi masters,
Can you help me understand what is openedx custom courses (CCX)?

and does it enhance me to add a field to every course and have it in search results and about_info page of them?

CCX is a lightweight way to re-use course content. Authorized "coaches" can run a "custom course" that allows them to change the enrollment and schedule, but not the content of the original course. 

It doesn't have any impact (that I'm aware of) on the course catalog search. Neither does it allow changes to the about or info pages (although that's been in the backlog).
