Start Next Lesson Automatically

Hello,

Is there any way to configure Open edX so that once you complete a lesson, the next lesson load/starts automatically? Kind of like autoplay on YouTube?

This might not be a great user experience. How do you know when a lesson is finished? As a learner, I may want to replay a video or take a break.

Technically, you could listen for an event that fires when a video ends, the last question is answered, or the learner scrolls to the end of the page. Realistically, as mentioned above, this behavior might not equate to a learner’s desire to go to the next page.

I’m curious: what is the motivation for this feature?

I definitely agree with those points. I'm currently running a small beta (20 students), one student brought it up as an idea and then 6 more agreed that they would maybe be interested.

I know platform that has this feature - https://welcome.stepik.org/en. When video ends next step loads automatically and student has a few seconds to cancel that.
It works good when page contain only a single video and nothing else and you don't need to stay on page after video ends.

Yes, there's a new setting to auto-advance to the next unit when the video has finished playing: it's done with ENABLE_AUTOADVANCE_VIDEOS in lms.env.json and then it can be set per course. It was introduced in https://github.com/edx/edx-platform/pull/15803

Because lessons can have more content after a video, auto-advancing when the video finishes might not suit all types of course.
