There is confusion as how (b)(1) is being tested. The ETT support team states that the CCDA can be sent via any email platform, including gmail. The ONC testing bodies say that Direct is required as seen at the link below.

https://www.healthit.gov/test-method/transitions-care states the standards are referenced as:

Because of this, we are unable to test until ONC provides clarification.  Thoughts?

Sorry for the confusion on this topic.

Direct is the way to test b1 completely end to end using the standard referenced at 170.202(a)(2).

However, if you are SUT (System under test) that is working with a HISP to send/receive data then you have to follow the Edge protocols guide referenced at 170.202(d) as the SUT.

The Edge protocols enable the SUT to send using SMTP or XDR and receive using POP/IMAP/XDR.

What is your system and how are you configured to send/receive information. If you need any further assistance, happy to jump on a call on Friday to sort it out.

Please ignore the post about using gmail. You should be using your SUT to send/receive based on either Edge Protocols or Direct Protocol.

Jim

Following back on the thread, just wanted to check on the specific configuration and the System Under Test.
As I indicated before, for SUT's trying to test for compliance with Edge Protocols, the standard is referenced at 170.202(d).

Happy to jump on call if needed to clarify and show the test tool works.

Thanks
