As with most climate pieces, the role of natural systems is missing. The default response one has upon reading this is, “Oh, clouds are so magical. So sad we’re losing yet another wonder to climate change”, and either tune out or feel despair—as though nothing can be done. Once you bring in the water cycle and the extent to which ecosystem processes drive it, everything shifts.

Here’s the comment I posted. (I seem not to get traction with comments, so add yours or upvote mine.)

Really glad to see attention to clouds, one of the key levers of climate and temperature. However, the writer fails to note that it is biota--life--that create clouds. As @Joe notes, intact forests are essential for the formation of clouds. This is another reason why focusing on healthy ecosystems is essential to preserve and bolster nature's capacity to regulate climate.
