(206) 724 2972Thank you Rosa. I believe empathy circles are an ideal way to break the ice and create an inviting space of consideration... My question is how do you address matters of confidentiality and what can be carried outside of the event (empathy) itself?

Often, clients who want facilitation support for a challenging issue, also want some help with their own communication skills. So, what I've often been doing, is starting with Empathy Circles. (On this page, you'll find a link to a brief one-pager with instructions on how to do this.)In Dynamic Facilitation we use a lot of "active listening" -- Jim and Jean call it "we-flection" -- and Empathy Circles is a great way to introduce active listening. Plus, it allows people to learn and practice this skill, in a very enjoyable and meaningful way.here is a real-life example. I want to mention something to all of you, about Empathy Circles... and the connection with Dynamic Facilitation, is that I've been using them both with clients, in a synergistic way.and...Hi all, this is a friendly reminder, that we would like for posts to the list-serve, to have some explicit connection to the topic of DF. You are welcome to post on other topics, as long as you make the connection explicit. Thanks!I usually invite clients to choose a positive topic -- for example, one thing they want to celebrate (could be an accomplishment, or an insight) and why it was so meaningful to them. After they have explored this topic using Empathy Circle format, then we proceed with the Dynamic Facilitation on whatever the topic is, that they want to be exploring that day.One of the benefits of doing this, is that clients are often in a more receptive mindset, after having experienced the Empathy Circle. Also, now that they have been reflecting one another's contributions in the EC, my reflecting their contributions as part of DF feels very natural. And, they now have a skill that they can continue to practice and to use in a variety of ways, after our facilitation work is over. So, that's my sharing on Empathy Circles, and how they connect with Dynamic Facilitation... let me know if you have any insights, questions, or comments about this!all best wishes,Rosa
