Dr Harshvardhan

Hon'ble Minister of Health

Govt. of India

Respected Sir,

Dwarka Forum is an apex body of residents, RWA and CGHS of Dwarka Sub City.  We take the issue of people of Dwarka with various authority like, DDA, SDMC, Police, DJB, BSES etc. We do interaction with these agencies on regular basis.

We wish to draw your kind attention on the condition of medicine shop in Dwarka as well as in entire Delhi. As per Drug and Cosmetic Act 1940 and rules made there under storage of drug is very important and has to remain stable throughout  its shelf life.If not stored properly the drug may lose its efficacy and may cause toxicity due to degradation of drug.

Rule also provides that condition to be satisfied before grant of licence for sale of drug. The state government authorities have also been empowered to take appropriate action against any non compliance.

Regardless of everything we may see everywhere drugs have been put in almirah and side rack of medical store in Dwarka where the temperature have been recorded more than 46 degree Celsius during the summer. As a lay man we understand that most of the medicine have to be stored at below 25 degree Celsius.

As a citizen we fail to understand how these shops have been granted licence and how they operate where we have mechanism to ensure the compliance. Many times people think that medicine is not effective. There may be number of reasons behind that but one of the reasons could be that it has not been stored properly. Due to toxicities this may even become dangerous.

appointment of pharmacist for dispensing drugs through these shops are also important. we wonder  when a shop is open for 7 days and 10 hours daily - how there can be only one pharmacist? This is only an eye wash. It is impossible that one person would work for 365 days 10 hours daily without break and this may also looked into while giving licences.

These issues are directly linked with life of human and we request you to give direction to Drug Control Department to ensure that each chemist shop may follow the guidelines for good storage practice of life saving drugs by installing air conditioners and glass window as installed by many modern pharmacies.

Thanking you and hoping for early response.

With regards

Sushil Kumar

President

To,

.The Hon'ble Lt.Governor,
NCT Delhi.

Respected Sir,
This is in reference to our previous letter dated 20th June We appreciate the advisory circulated by Mr.A.K. Nasa, Head of Office/Controlling Authority Drug Control Department Delhi addressed to various chemists association. The drug control department has admitted that if medicines are not stored properly at requisite temperature as mentioned on label then it will lose its efficacy The Deputy Drug Controller have emphasized that "the whole purpose of proper storage is to ensure delivery of quality, safe and efficacious drugs to consumers. The Schedule 'P' of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules,1945 prescribes the condition of storage of various Pharmaceutical Products/formulations, which is mandatory to be printed on the label of the drugs."
Further the official have requested the various associations to "encourage" their members to take steps during summer to maintain the required storage conditions by providing AC in their premises.
Sir,
while appreciating we also understand that merely issuing an advisory will not be going to solve the problem and we need a constant watch on how this advisory is implemented. Thus we request your good self to direct the concerned authority to ensure the compliance as the health of the citizen is involved.
we also request you to give us 5-10 minutes time to meet you in person to brief other issues of Dwarka as well.

With high regards
Sushil Kumar
President
On behalf of Dwarka Forum
cc to Hon'ble CM NCT of Delhi.
