Hello everyone,
Thanks for the offers of donations to help fund some BIG-Y tests for your group of Duncans.
In my previous emails I have tried to explain what SNP testing means and how the BIG-Y fits into our research. Always feel free to ask questions about our research.
At this point we have two men that have ordered the BIG-Y test (Jason and Wayne) and I will apply the donations to their orders. Right now I have $125 that I can apply to each of their testing cost.
This is a great start for this group. Maybe the only other BIG-Y test needed would be one from Dean’s subgroup that shows 25 at DYS390.
This is all a collaborative and sharing effort that will help us all in this SNP discovery process.
If anyone else would like to make a donation please apply them to the project’s general fund. In the note section list it as: “donation for Duncan group ‘F’”. See project website.
The FTDNA sale is on until Wednesday at midnight.
We know from Dean’s older SNP test that Duncan group ‘F’ is at least R-L21. With some newer info we are leaning toward this group being in the Z253 subgroup/clade under L21. The Big-Y test should show this and hopefully give us some brand new SNPs to work with. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/17907527/R1b-L21_Tree_Chart.pdf
A second SNP testing option:
Another testing lab YSEQ run by Thomas Krahn offers single and panel SNP tests. He has both Z253 and Z2186 in his catalog but he also has developed a 2-tier SNP panel that tests all the currently known SNPs under Z253. This is not a discovery test like the Big-Y but now that I have looked at it closer I think it would be good to have someone in group 'F' take this panel. In fact there may be a few of the SNPs in the Z253 panel that are not picked up in the BIG-Y.
The YSEQ R1b-Z253 panel test is $88 and Thomas has a quick turn around on his work. YSEQ website is

This will require a new test kit for YSEQ so take a look.
I cannot say it enough…. but thank you all for being so involved and excited about our Duncan families and its history.
Sincerely,
