My BigY test results came in today.  Unfortunately, I have no idea how to interpret them.  When Tim looks at the results, he’ll have to let me know if I’m still a member of the Duncan family!!

 

I had also upgraded from the 37-marker test, but my 67-marker test isn’t complete yet.  It looks like it will be another week or two.

I’m in haplogroup R-Z253.  It also has the letters BY127, so maybe that’s a subgroup?  In case anyone is able to look it up, my kit # is 28358.

Hi Jason,

Yes, you are the first to get the Big –Y test results back. These is a bit of analysis we need to do but you have validated that Duncan group 'F' men are on the L21>Z253>Z2186 branches.  Gwyneth has had her fathers tested for Z253 and Z2186 which he came back positive for so now we are differently moved down the branches to this level.

Now to get Dean and Wayne's test results and to see what below Z1286 you three share so we can move group 'F' further toward the leaf on the tree.

I am putting together a charts to help visually show your SNP branching.

My results are in and I too fall under the Z2186 branch.  I need some time to digest the info.
 
Jason and I appear to be the closest match under the Matching tab.  David Bridgnell is my 2nd closest match, and him and I are a Step 5 after 67 Markers.
 
Tim, how do we know what we share below the line?  Is additional testing required?

Hi Wayne,

Wow your test processed fast!

You have the results that we needed. Matching Jason with no differences in what FTDNA can see in you SNPs.

We need to get Dean's results in but he too should be right in there with you and Jason.

What we need to do then is have a second pair of eyes to analysis the results.  I have been using Full Genomes Corp. to analysis the Big-Y results.  They do a very good analysis of the raw data file (a BAM file) and have been able to find SNPs that FTDNA analysis has missed.

We also want to get the admins at the Z253 project to give us there views once we get all three test in.

What we are looking for are any differences between the three of you.
What differences do the three of you have from other men with the Z253 SNP - downstream
See if we can find any private SNPs that the three of you may have that we can associate to group F men.
Then we will test those private SNPs to everybody else in group F 

This is digging deep into our share DNA and moving our lineages toward the present!
