Just returned from Turkey with its millennia of cultures and its current ability to hold most of them together today in a complimentary fashion, I point you to this example of our own diversity.  Just look at the faces and the sexes.  It's wonderful!!

Our Turkish guide. a liberal with 30 years of experience in guiding westerners, a comprehensive knowledge of Turkish and western cultural history, and someone firmly opposed to another term by Erdoğan, nevertheless stated several times that he admired the only two historical examples in his view of  civilizations willing to offer citizenship and integration to all ethnic, religious, and cultural  groups - the Romans and the US. 

Unexpected high praise. 

PS  All Turkish males are required to complete six months of military service. You encounter them everywhere, proudy standing guard (with weapons - loaded?), at civic facilities. They are regarded by everyone proudly as their sons doing their duty.They leave messages for their girlfriends to wait for their return.
