Deleting a Relationship Leaves 'relation.*' Metadata

I am testing how removing a relationship between items or removing one item that is part of a relationship affects metadata (DSpace 8, only custom entities).

What I've noticed is that when I choose to save virtual metadata, in addition to the actual metadata I want to preserve, a 'relation.*' metadata entry remains as well (with the ID of the detached item), but only the one without the 'latestForDiscovery'' qualifier.

Is this expected, or does it result from misconfiguration?
