Good Afternoon DSpace Community

I have been trying for a few weeks to work on my own local installation of DSpace. Both backend and frontend.

I would dearly like some assistance and guidance with following the installation guide. I find myself at times questioning alot of what I understand regarding the steps as there are many options/paths one can take to install DSpace locally.

My question would be, I'd like to install DSpace locally and not rely on docker/containerising the installation. However I still want to simplify the steps required to complete a full backend and frontend installation.

I then eventually want to either deploy the running application to a live server. Or alternatively replicate the entire installation on a remote server and expose that to a domain.

Any assistance, guidance, links and steps would be dearly appreciated.

Kind Regards,
Abdul-Qaadir

Hi,

That installation guide *is the best place to start* if you are looking to install DSpace 8.  There are a lot of optional tasks listed, as the goal of that guide it to provide you with all your options.
My recommendation would be to start simple and install DSpace 8 on a development or test machine first.  Then you can replicate that process in production.

If you have specific questions or problems you run into with the installation, you can ask them on this Tech Support mailing list.  We also have a guide for Common Installation Issues at the bottom of that Installation guide: https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC8x/Installing+DSpace#InstallingDSpace-CommonInstallationIssues

If someone else on this list has a guide they've written specific to Ubuntu 24, hopefully they will share it here.

Tim
