To whom it may concern,

I am Maya Nazzal, in charge of the Institutional Repository at the Library of the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) – Lebanon.

We are using Dspace as our open access repository for scholarly and/or published digital content.

My questions are :

  1. Could we link the authorization item to the University IP (so the uploaded files can be opened on campus while and restricted off-campus) ?
  2. We have already installed a book viewer. Any suggestion how we can restrict downloading the files? Or do you have any other solution to restrict/limit the downloading of a document or file to only to 15 %  ?

Regards,

Maya

Hi Maya,

Yes, DSpace can support restrictions based on IP address.  See the "IPAuthentication" plugin for how to do that: https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC7x/Authentication+Plugins#AuthenticationPlugins-IPAuthentication

Regarding your second question, there's no way in DSpace to currently limit a download to a specific percentage of a document. Documents are either fully accessible or fully restricted.  The only way I could think of to achieve this is to create two copies...
  1. one which is 15% of the total file, and make this publicly visible as a "preview document"
  2.  the second which is the full file and is access restricted so that it is only available to specific users/groups
