Dear list,

To us, the use of the Request a Copy feature
(https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSDOC7x/Request+a+Copy ) is limited
because our bitstreams are often too large to be attached to an email.

I wonder if there is an attempt to allow access directly to the resource
via a (n expirable) download link? Is this a feature of interest for
DSpace 7.X?

Best
Alexander

Hi Alexander,

I suspect others would be interested in such a feature if you or anyone else would be interested in building it (or hiring a service provider to build it on your behalf).  Currently though, it's not on the immediate 7.x Roadmap...as the funded development activities are more specific to porting 6.x features to 7.x.

That said, as an open-source project, we encourage & accept community contributions at any time.  So, if you (or anyone else reading this) are interested in this enhancement, I'd gladly help any contributed code get reviewed as part of the next 7.x release.  For upcoming 7.x release plans see https://wiki.lyrasis.org/display/DSPACE/DSpace+Release+7.0+Status
